The MTV3700D official firmware only supports up to 1 TB.

Partition the HDD first before putting it into MTV3700D.

MTV3600D and MTV3700D are different in their HDD format and whether they support built-in Format HDD function.  Therefore, I'd not recommend following the MTV3600D format procedure in that blog for use with MTV3700D.

I am the owner of MTV3700D and have a lot of experience on it.

The original MTV3700D came with a 500GB hard disk. And I believe Pixel Magic uses firmware to limit the system HDD to 1TB. Any HHD larger than 1TB would not be recognized by MTV3700D.

I have gone through wklie's advice in various forums , and all effort are in vain for 2TB or 3TB HHD.  Any HHD of 1TB or less are working well.

For 2TB or 3TB HDD, even they could be formatted, and after power down, they are not recognized by the machine again.

Have you done a factory reset?
Several months ago, I had the same problem when I upgraded the MTV3700D with 3TB hard disk.
The problem was solved after a factory reset.

I followed above link and use Toshiba3T. It works.

I also used the Toshiba HDD 3TB BT01ABA300V and could format the hard disk to 3 TB and it seemed it was working well in the first instances. But after powered down for more than 10 minutes, the machine hang while power up again. For HDD of 1TB or less, it does not have such problem.

I have checked with Pixel Magic, they specify maximum 1 TB drive for MTV3700D.

KKLee: You may face unstable issue after upgrading firmware. I do have the same experience.

No stability issues encountered so far.
I also use toshiba 3TB hard disk!
Firmware version:  10.7 (the latest I presume)

I think 3700D supports up to 4TB hard disks.  Pixel Magic just don't want to update this information officially for those discontinued products.

I am happy to learn of many success stories.

May be there is a little problem in my MTV3700D or there are various MTV3700D versions. I bought my MTV3700D five years ago, at the early release time of the model.
