At present, the sale and use of radiocommunications equipment operating within the 60 GHz band (i.e. 57-66 GHz band) is not allowed in Hong Kong. However, we are pleased to inform you that we are working on the creation of a class licence to cover the sale, possession and use of such equipment. The public consultation on the proposed creation of this class licence has completed and we have received no adverse comment. You may find the relevant consultation paper at http://www.coms-auth.hk/en/polic ... mpleted/index.html.
Once the aforesaid class licence is issued, the sale, possession and use of 60 GHz devices (e.g. 802.11ad equipment) will be covered by that class licence provided that such devices and their usage meet the requirements of that class licence and the specification HKCA 1074. Traders selling compliant 60 GHz devices and users of such devices are not required to apply for a licence individually. The draft of the class licence and HKCA 1074 are given in appendices 1 and 2 respectively of the aforesaid consultation paper. We hope that the class licence can be issued in the first quarter of 2017.
Please note that even with the aforesaid class licence issued, for the import of 60 GHz devices into Hong Kong (e.g. for sale in Hong Kong), the importer still requires a Radio Dealers Licence (Unrestricted) or an import permit (each import permit is good for one shipment only). The guidelines / information note for application of the Radio Dealers Licence (Unrestricted) and the import permit and the relevant application forms are available at http://www.coms-auth.hk/en/licen ... s/apply/index.html.
