Thinking of upgrading my trusty Macbook white early 2009 w/ nVidia 9400M graphics. First off, I'm slightly disappointed that *all* macbook are using onboard intel GPU so my guess is that gaming performance would not be that great! Anyway, I guess I should set my priorities:
As light weight as possible and as big of a screen as possible. I'll be using it for coding and given the large amount of data involved, I suspect amount of ram would be more important than CPU speed...
So I'm looking at:
#1: 13in MBA w/ 2.2Ghz i7 (TB to 3.2Ghz), 8Gb ram (max) and 256Gb SSD 1.35Kg, at HKD$11k
#2: 13in MBP w/ 2.7Ghz i5 (TB to 3.1Ghz), 8Gb ram (16Gb max) and 256Gb SSD 1.58kg, at HKD$11.5k
Advantage for #1 is i7 & lighter weight while #2 got faster clock although on i5 only, more room for RAM upgrade AND Retina display.
So to me #2 seems to be the sweet spot? More importantly, is the RAM and SSD easily upgradeable? The upgrade costs again seems excessive and from my limited experience on my MBW, it was relatively easy to upgrade the RAM & the SSD.
If u don't mind a bit heavy, MBPR is much better (13" or 15")
Mine was upgraded from 11" MBA to 13" MBPR , actually size of 13"MBPR is even smaller than 13" MBA but a bit thicker ! (once you get used to retina display, u will never go back to normal display)
