It seems Seagate desktop (ordinary edition) 3.5" hdd has pretty bad user feedback.  May be its NAS edition would be a bit better (I'm not sure).

Regarding the portable hdds, I think they're better (more reliable) than its 3.5" product line.

Even Constellation ES3 could fail right at initial use, scary

As for Suckgate's 2.5" variety, heard that they're just average in performance and not too reliable

I've two Seagate 2.5" :
1. ST2000LM003 2TB
- Embedded in Transcend STOREJET25A3 portable hdd.
- Have been using for more than a year, so far so good.
2. ST9500420AS 500GB
- Bundled from Lenovo E520 notebook
- Have been using for nearly 5 years, so far so good.

However, if I'm going to buy a 2.5" hdd, I would not select Seagate

The only Suckgate 2.5" which I still have (and use) is a Momentus XT 500GB (ST95005620AS) from a lucky draw sweepstakes
So far so good and yes it's freaking fast, but then again God knows if it would suddenly die

For general use 2.5", stick to WD's Caviar Blue (esp. 10JPVX) or Black (7500BPKX), or HGST 1TB (esp. 7x24 version)
