[購買問題] Amazon foreign exchange pricing - expensive!

本帖最後由 luke123 於 2014-6-12 08:59 編輯

Hi

I made a purchase on Amazon a few days ago, and noticed that its foreign exchange pricing (ie, buying and making payment in HKD according to Amazon's rates and fees) is noticeably higher than that of a local credit card.

For your reference, the difference is nearly 1.9% in my case. The USD/HKD exchange rate used by my local credit card worked out at just over 7.90.

Please note!

As a matter of fact, I have used Amazon for over 10 years.

It so happened that I switched to Amazon's HKD pricing purely for reference during checkout, and reverted to USD for payment (my standard practice). I made a note of the HKD price quoted, and later checked my credit card's record online. The Amazon pricing premium (exchange rate plus fees) was a little excessive, so I started this thread for fellow forum members' reference.

if u shop over 10 yrs on amazon.com, you should get used to FX rate on that. If you pay by US dollars, amazon would only charge your exact amount in your credit card acct. The FX rate in your credit card is VISA / Master / AE plus bank handling charge. Amazon has no benefit from that.

Your passage doesn't square with the two prices (Amazon HKD quote and HK credit card HKD billed) observed in my recent purchase, as explained above. I rest my case.
