PCI wireless card which use madwifi driver can be easily running in master mode
for this 11N usb wireless card I have not found how to let it work as AP under Linux.

What driver is the Atheros USB using?
You may get it by lshw if you have this command.

I haven't found successful case with same usb lan chip for AP.
  1. modinfo ar9170usb | egrep 'filename|license|description|depends'
  2. filename:       /lib/modules/2.6.31-17-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ar9170/ar9170usb.ko
  3. description:    Atheros AR9170 802.11n USB wireless
  4. license:        GPL
  5. depends:        mac80211,led-class,ath,cfg80211

It also use GPL driver so if not now, hope in the near future to support.
