[操作疑難] use a 4TB Hard Disk on a motherboard without UEFI

Currently, just reinstall my Windows 7 64 bit machine, and re-use a 4TB hard disk as a data disk on a motherboard without UEFI, the motherboard recognized the Hard Disk as a 1.8TB Hard Disk, and I used GPT formatted it via a USB device, and put it back to my machine, the windows recongize it back as 4TB Hard Disk, but once I put more than 2TB data on that Hard Disk, all data vanished after the system restarted, and showed as 1.8TB unformatted Hard Disk,

Any C hing know what went wrong, as I can use that 4TB hard disk as normal one before I reinstall the Windows.

I heard that BIOS with old design could not handle more than 2GB storage.......new designed BIOS has updated with GPT so that it could handle more than 2GB storage.

樓主試試update sata driver/chipset driver(如有)
如果唔得就用翻msahci

Thanks thomasc5 C Hing, I think the ACHI driver may be the root cause of above sudden lost of my hard disk , since I am still using a X38 motherboard and only get the latest driver is 9.6.0.1014 (the latest driver from Intel),
I am trying to reformat the hard disk first (low level format), see whether it can resolve the problem. as I can see it as 4TB in windows, but can't finish check disk program .

or any C Hing can provide me the latest driver Intel X38 for my motherboard - ASUS P5E Pro workstation.

1) As KinChungE said, you can uninstall the intel ahci driver and just use Microsoft's AHCI driver that comes with Windows 7.  It supports 4TB disks.

2) Intel RST RAID driver(#) *might* install and work if you turn on RAID in BIOS (no need to actually RAID your disks), as the PCI ID is the same for X38 and the newest chipsets in RAID mode.  But I recommend (1), I think msachi driver is more stable.

Choose "Windows 7".

Thanks tinming C Hing, I just installed IRST Ver 10.6.0.1022 driver and simply run a check disk successfully, try to put more than 2 TB data on the questioned drive . Hope it can work now.
