These drives do not appear to be compatible with the most recent LSI controllers. I use 9361 controller and after adding a couple of these 1TB drives get bus reset errors and one of the drives marked as bad. I disconnected drives from LSI and ran WD diagnostic which completed without any errors. Connected drives to LSI and see errors again.
TLER is not adjustable and no information available on the value used by stock firmware.
Eventually I gave up on the idea of using these drives for raided storage and will use two drives for backup stored off-site.
I do not understand how drives can be marketed for NAS installation without testing with the most common hardware RAID controller.
I really liked 2.5" form factor as it allows to install 4 drives in 5.25" slot
Most likely these drives will work OK with software RAID.
Dear Will, it is unfortunate that you are experiencing problems with your Hard Drives. It is good to learn that you verify the issue is not a physical disk concern by running diagnostics on your drives. Although WD Red hard drives should work properly with most NAS enclosures, please note there are many different external bridgeboard and enclosure manufacturers, each with their own command sets, levels of compatibility, and technical requirements. Because of this, Western Digital features a list of tested NAS devices compatible with WD Red drives as a basic guide for verified compatibility and support.
To ensure full compatibility and support, we would recommend that you consider verifying the compatibility section at: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=810
