Lenovo S9 - How to attain 5hrs with 3 cell battery

Just bought a 2nd hand Lenovo S9.

And I try to achieve 4+ hrs with a 3 cell battery on S9. Seems like workable, although I don't have time to wait for 5 hrs.

With this "custom tuning", only wifi and screen (4 marks) is enabled. All the rest, including sound,  are off. This is what I need usually, just browsing. And I can attain less than 7W power consumption on idle.

Below see a capture of the screen.

Basically,  what I did
- use "devcon" as script to turn off all unused devices
- optionally, use "setfsb" to lower to 100Mhz  (or CPU 1.1Ghz). (Reduce fan noise too)
- monitor it with utility "Notebook BatteryInfo" to see the battery drainage rate

If you want to try a easier method, go get "Ekobatt" utility. That is simpler. But you should know what you are doing....Go to "Device Manager" to figure out what happens to yr S9.

In fact, most netbook has similar Atom architecture design, and therefore power consumption should be quite close. But if the peripheral are too many, and not power saving enough, it will drain the battery, and make it look worse in benchmark.

I try similar on Kohjinsha SH6 and reduce the battery consumption by 20-40%.

I looking forward to see a 5W consumption netbook with most critical feature on (wifi or 3G, screen always-on, sound, one usb for low power device - like flash disk). Then a ~30W 3 cell battery can last 6 hrs... just like the advancement of mobile phone.

5hr with 3cell battery in S9 ???

正常情況下使用,6 Cell 都未有 5 小時

更何況 3 Cell 呢

所有東西全on (usb,cardreader等)就差不多8-9W,還是idle, 沒loading。

我剛試一下,用ppstream看片,turn off all unnecessary parts, but wifi+sound on,90% battery 都 report 有 3 小時可用。Power rate (consumption) 大約 9-10W.

這就是一般worse case loading scenario。因為 ppstream 會用到p2p, screen (backlit on ah), wifi, sound 和 CPU.

所以,4小時一般工作,上網應沒問題。

See?

(不過,沒試到電池完,也有可能電池report不準.....)

補充一下,ppstream還會access harddisk,因為caching。

which "Clock Generator" setting to set in setfsb ??

no...mainly disable unused "devices", like lan, cardreader, PCI and even usb.

I am lazy to explain too much. Take a look at this capture. All USB port is OFF.

If you know "device manager", you'll know what I mean. The  good thing is you can re-enable it any time without issue.

Really "disable" the device, and make it sleeps....And not doing so by Lenovo built-in software key to turn off. That normally doesn't save real power.

The Lenovo's "Super Energy Saver" actually perform part of it...but we can do it to a further extent.

setfsb, to downclock, can only do a little to the whole equation.

Disable devices

misunderstand yr response...here it is...

s9/10 pll (= clock generator) is SLG8SP513V

I can only downclock to 100. If overclock it to 166, it hanged with white/blue screen.

Anyone can overclock it will be appreciated to know.

what is the temperature or the testing environment ?

normal room temp. home wifi access. as i said run with "ppstream".

CPU temp? not checked.

To confirm, I'll try to do one more test with ppstream to run until battery ends.
