圍返港紙千鬆啲, 同價位俾我可能會揀本地買 Plextor M6V 512GB 或者 Crucial MX300 525GB。 雖則兩隻都慢過 850 EVO, 但 M6V 話晒都係 MLC, 又唔駛等寄代理又係肯即換o個啲。 MX300 就個價仲平過 850 EVO。

如果淨睇 850 EVO, 香港買的話珍寶(自保, 代寄保養)賣緊千二尾, 就咁睇唔嫁意等的話未計看門狗都有 so, 但唔知隻看門狗要點 redeem。

Family member fell victim to 850 Evo as well, thinking it's good quality

Result?  Two old laptops have been RAPED and upgraded with this cr@p w/W10h
These two laptops are as good as dead now

You mean you already seen 2 850 EVO broken? Did they just stop working or has some symptoms before dying?  Just want to know cause I personally have 2 850 EVO in use as well... Touch wood they are still working fine.

Not yet, but will be someday...

That old doofus didn't listen but instead jumped on the bandwagon w/o clear thinking

Truly, anyone dying for SSD trend should at least get 850 Pro model which is at least MLC

Oh BTW, just a reminder, when an SSD dies there's no prior symptom, it all may come at a sudden

All drives will die someday. Personally I had multiple MLC drives dead as well, e.g.
OCZ Agility 3 256GB
OCZ Vertex 4 256GB
(back in the day OCZ drives are good value for money before they went bust)
Plextor M5Pro 256GB
Samsung 840PRO 256GB

Don't trust any drive, trust backup

Easier said then done due to various circumstances
Of course the better backup routine is to do it in real time or daily... but who would do that?

It's lucky that all broken SSD I had (except the Samsung 840PRO went dead completely when it first freeze) had some symptoms (slow reading, freeze but recoverable after power-cycle) before they die.

Since my first OCZ Agility 3 went dead I have daily backup for my Windows desktop.  Personally I had good experience with Macrium Reflect Free Edition.  It's free, and it is pretty fast with the differential backup (took just several minutes for daily backup my 256GB SSD to HDD).  

And for my Macbook Air, Time machine works fine.

My point is that TLC SSDs are surely worse performance-wise, but MLC SSDs aren't inherently better reliability-wise.  ALL of my broken SSD went dead long before their NAND worn out.  I personally won't care too much on MLC/TLC alone.  For the same price I would rather bought a TLC drive from a reputable manufacturer than a unknown brand MLC drive.

Sure MLCs (and even SLCs) are prone to premature death if you subject such SSDs (or flash memories) to very heavy and strenuous usage (which causes premature wear)...
Same thing as enterprise grade HDDs which also die if not maintained properly (and subjected to very rough use eg. BT tasks)

For what it takes to get a good MLC SSD I'd rather save that money for a better garde hi-cap HDD (esp. on laptop applications)
Plus I have a better chance maintaining an HDD rather than SSD due to not worrying about using the wrong methods (eg. defragmentation which is an SSD's NO-NO)

As for incremental backup, Time Machine does make a difference since it's integrated feature of OSX, and is quite user-friendly (after some simple tutorials)...
Not so with Winblows as various 3rd-party software (esp. paid ones) is available and each has its pros and cons
