8558 is using atbm8830, it may be wrongly identified as d689 as well. can you unplug the d689 and do the "scan" again. w_scan will use the first adaptor (/dev/dvb/adaptor0) by default. so your result above may come from d689. i can watch tv with the command
scan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/hk-HongKong > ~/channels.conf
vlc channels.conf
i think scandvb will do the same thing.

i am using archlinux. scan was come from linuxtv-dvb-apps
scan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/hk-HongKong > channels.conf
my device is d689.
wait, 8558 pro has dual tuner, plus d689, so you should have 3 /dev/dvb/adaptor ?

very good, hope you enjoy your card. you know vlc can do streaming, so you can watch tv on other computer.
ps. i only found 2 shops in ssp selling tv cards, hope other c-hing share their experience.

no, my system is a tiny i3-2100 connect to my TV in living room mainly for watching tv and movies, and also web surfing. i have a rt-n16 (tomatousb) connected to a usb hard drive for nas (and bt).  so, no need for video streaming.

I also got similar problem when watching ATV CCTV and SZTV or playing their recorded files.

Problem is the ATV h264 encoding for these 2 channels not compatible with ffmpeg based players. There was also problem for ATV World during Olympic period this year after changing to h264. Then a few weeks later, the problem suddenly disappeared ... probably they've changed the h264 characteristics to make it more widely compatible. I've sent an email to ATV regarding CCTV and SZTV problem but got no response.

I've got X8558 Pro and ASUS u3100. Both got greenish problem for CCTV.


BTW, I found one physical issue with 8558 Pro due to the slot arrangement of most motherboards being in the order --- PCI-E x16 (for display card), then PCI-E (for X8558Pro), then the 2 PCI slots. There's very narrow space between PCIE x16 & PCIE slots, affecting air flow from the fan of my Nvidia GeForce 9300 display card. As a result, temperature of the Nvidia GPU is 15 deg Celsius higher after installing 8558 Pro.

IcIc, so you're using xvba + vaapi for h264 acceleration.

The CCTV problem is not related to high temperature (actually high temp is for the display card, not 8558). I got same green problem when using asus u3100 adapter.

my vlc (2.0.3) seems to have problem tuning to a frequency. Error is,

VLC media player 2.0.3 Twoflower (revision 2.0.2-93-g77aa89e)
[0x8d1bb8] dummy interface: using the dummy interface module...
[0x7f55a0006fa8] dtv access error: cannot set frontend tuning parameters: Invalid argument

[0x7f55a0006fa8] main access error: The selected digital tuner does not support the specified parameters.
Please check the preferences.

Still I can use vlc to stream with help of tzap and dvbsnoop as follows:
1. run tzap in a terminal, e.g. tzap -c channel.conf "jade"   --- the channel name can be any channel of the carrier frequency, so even "jade" is specified here, vlc can still stream, say,  ATV home,  TVB pearl, etc.

2. on another terminal, run following to stream TVB Pearl:
dvbsnoop -s ts -tsraw -b|cvlc fd://0 --programs=2 --sout '#standard{access=http,mux=ts,dst=:8080}'

Even if it can, it's not quite practical since the recordings of the 2 programs need to start and end at the same time. For example we cannot start recording Jade at 10:00 and then Pearl at 10:30.

My recording scripts can also record multiple programs simultaneously and they can start at same or different times. For this purpose, I wrote 2 small C programs: relay.c and tscat.c. 'relay' simply read TS data from stdin, and store into temporarily buffers (total buffer size is limited so new data would overwrite old ones) and is ready for piping to multiple receivers via fifos. 'tscat' is a problem, which when runs, sends a signal to 'relay', asking it to pipe TS data to it. 'tscat' then simply rewrite the TS data to stdout.

Let's say we need to record 2 programs: ATV Home starting at 10:00, and TVB Jade starting at 10:30. Then at 10:00, my script would perform the followings:
1. run 'tzap -c /etc/dvb/channels.conf "jade"' to get the tuner tuned.
2. run 'dvbsnoop -adapter 0 -s ts -tsraw -b | /tmp/relay 0'. TS data are then sent to 'relay' continuously.
3. tscat 0 /tmp/fifo0_16713 | cvlc fd://0 --programs=11 --sout file/ts:/common/tv/file1.ts 1>/dev/null 2>&1

tscat sends a signal to relay requesting it to pipe the TS data into fifo /tmp/fifo0_16713. tscat then pipe the data to vlc via stdout.

At 10:30, recording of TVB Jade starts as follows simply by another instance of tscat + vlc:
tscat 0 /tmp/fifo0_23456 | cvlc fd://0 --programs=1 --sout file/ts:/common/tv/file2.ts 1>/dev/null 2>&1

This tscat instance sends a signal to relay, request it to send the TS data also to it via /tmp/fifo0_23456. Hence relay will then be sending data to 2 clients.

My script takes care of the time duration of each recording. When one of the programs finishes recording, it kills its corresponding tscat + vlc. If all recordings of an adapter has finished, it kills tzap + dvbsnoop as well.

absolutely no problem in recording all the audio and subtitle tracks. I also have no issue in watching or recording all the channels, including Jade/Home/Pearl/World, etc, except CCTV & SZTV which have h264 compatibility issue.

Yes it should work. Make sure that in your cvlc command line, you're typing ... programS=xx ..., not ... program=xx ... . vlc accept both syntax, but without the 's', all subtitle tracks and the audio tracks except the first one are all stripped away!

Your second sentence is correct: 不用 programs 就 default 無哂 subtitle 和 audio traccks.

I got same pain 3 years ago when my recording scripts one day suddenly couldn't record subtitles and the other audio tracks. I finally realized that I've accidentally changed 'programs' to 'program', and vlc didn't complain. I could only come to a conclusion that both of them are accepted by vlc as correct, but without 's', vlc only records the video stream, and the first audio stream, and throws away all the other streams.

I just found that recording of multiple programs can be done using tzap, dvbstream and vlc as follows:
1. start tzap, eg tzap -a 0 -c /etc/channels.conf "jade"
2. dvbstream -c 0 -o 8192|cvlc fd://0 --programs=2 --sout "file/ts:file1.ts"

Then at another time, a new recording can be started:
3. dvbstream -c 0 -o 8192|cvlc fd://0 --programs=1 --sout "file/ts:file2.ts"

This is simpler than my current approach using my own relay + tscat. Due to 8192 being specified as the PID, the whole transponder is streamed, hence all subtitle and audio tracks are preserved in the recordings.

The option '8192' was not available for dvbstream 3 years ago when I wrote my recording script.
