The original T-Mobile has got some restriction to the functionality of the router.
Before I can flash 3rd party firmware, I have to update the bootloader (so I can flash the other firmware including the original Asus router)

The benefit of Merlin firmware is that it is based on the original Asus router targeting for bug fixes.
So it looks like 95% like the original Asus firmware. Another benefit is you can install additional program/functionality much easier by installing entware-ng.
