Why? The OS is primitive or buggy?
I am a novice and will not use advanced features.

es. <2k. Intel dual core CPU and 2GB RAM.
Qnap TS-451 may be a better choice but many people say Qnap OS is still worse than Synology.
This is my first time to use NAS. WD my cloud is my original choice. I want simple and easy to use.

Media info tells us that ASUSTOR was founded by a team of ex-QNAP professionals
(can't find the source now ...)
if you say (or many ppl say) ... Qnap OS is still worse than Synology, what do you think of the asustor adm ?
Anyway, dunno if you've the time to do a test.
- Copy 2TB of data (with thousands of files) from local to asustor using some kind of file copy software with verify on (such as fastcopy); pls note that "verify on" is very important
- Make sure it's in non-stop mode ... running for overnight might be required
- If there is no problem, at least the smb service portion is fixed
I had the asustor nas years ago and my requirement during time was so so so so so simple, network file sharing only !! adm 2.x (forgot which version) smb service was buggy (very), network connection disconnects intermittently. Files being copied to nas were corrupted (might 1/3 of the batch ...). Submitted tickets (many) to TW support, having wasted much time to deal with support (in months), nothing was fixed!
In the exact same intranet environment, I've switched from asustor to qnap and things were then immediately back to normal. I can copy 2TB (or more) files to the nas without any file corruption.
Recently switched to Synology, and I would say, yes the DSM is even better as far as ultra stability is concerned.
If your requirement is simple, not only WD (as you mentioned), S (or Q) can also be very simple. For instance, I'm using a S 2-bay running Basic mode only, 100% no raid setup! This is very simple.
ps. WD my cloud has various issues ... better check epc threads |
