dell 5i,6i, adaptec 4800,4805,lsi 3080X, lsi 3081e or 8408E. which one is better? i am trying to do the SSD raid in it. sure is 4pcs to 10pcs la..

Adaptecs are fast.  I have 5805 and 51605.  They are real fast.....  when they like the drives.

However, I have had a lot of issues with the Adaptecs when used with SSD except for Corsair S128 and Intels.  The Adaptec will not detect the JM RAID based SSDs most of the time.  When the adaptec detects the SSDs, most of the time it will drop the SSDs when I tried to use them.
Not to mention that the Adaptec told way longer to boot up from BIOS.....

My LSI 8708ELP on the other hand is a lot slower (around 4XXMB/s maxed vs Adaptec >6XXMB/s in various RAID0 configs) but it works with ANY drives/SSD that I throw at it.  And it takes minimal amount of overhead time to boot from BIOS.....

So I kept my LSI 8708ELP in my machine working and my brand new Adaptec 5805 on the shelf collecting dust.....

Dell PERC/6i will slightly outperform the 8708ELP due to more cache (I have this one in a server....)

i find other web sites are saying the same thing too. do you know if i want to do 20pcs ssd together to play the raid0,, how can i do it?

To be that serious, you probably will need several LSI/Adaptec controllers to extract reasonable speed.  Seems that LSI has a cap around 4XXMB-5XXMB/s and Adaptec around 8XXMB/s.  And PCIe bandwidth may come into limit as well.  20X200MB/s is already 4G/s and you will hit a lot of bottleneck before the SSD RAID0 becomes a limit again......

BTW, I would suggest making SSDs with SAS instead of SATA as it would seem that the inefficiencies of SATA is becoming a limit with SSD as well.......

first of all you'll need a card which supports 20pcs SATA heads and runs stable.
only brand/card come across my mind is adaptec. with a chipset like 9410w or something else.

btw. PM me your new SSD info plz.
