Synology will force you to convert all other formats to mp4 format when uploading video to photo station.  You are advsied to use your own pc (through Synology Assistant) to do the conversion instead of the NAS cpu for the purpose of efficiency!  Or you may upload the file directly to "video" instead of "photo" sharefolder.

咁講的話, 係nas 入面係唔係會有2 個file ?
(一個原檔, 一個已convert)

In the "photo" sharefolder of photo station, there should be only one converted file if using synology assistant to upload (and converting) the video file.  But if you copy the video file directly to the "photo" sharefolder, the NAS will discover this non-compatibile file format and it will perform the file conversion using the NAS CPU automatically.  This process is extremely slow due to the lower processing ability of NAS CPU.

Actually the mpeg4 (h.264) video format supported by Synology has a lot of advantages - high compression ratio but high video quality!  mpeg4 (h.264) also supports 1080p!!

If you want to put the MOV file in the Synology NAS, put it directly in video sharefolder (not photo sharefolder).  Unlike photo shrefolder, Synology will not force the file conversion in video sharefolder.  You can then watch the video in other computers, ps3 or TVs.

The file size of MOV is too large!
I spent two weeks to convert all MOV/ mpeg, file etc to mpeg4 (h.264)!  Both PS3 and my TVs can play this format nicely from the files saved in my Synology NAS.
