Just got Z2 from Fat Boy shop. Simple review on various platforms.
1. stand alone player mode (plays TF card)
No problem to decode all formats (wav, dsf, flac, all bit rates and sampling rates). Bass is rich and solid. Resolution is fair only
2. PC mode (win10)
Since there is no windows driver from factory, win10 will install a Microsoft default USB audio driver. But the driver supports 16 bits 48K Hz only (yes, no other sampling rate, no 44.1K Hz too). Basically you have to use SRC such as foobar SOX to output 48K Hz. Audio quality is quite bad due to SRC. If you want it as a PC USB DAC, forget it
3. mobile phone OTG USB DAC
No problem on android 6 phone. Default is 16 bit 48K Hz. All apps can output sound to USB. But Hiby HD mode (e. g. DSD native) is incompatible with Z2. Therefore Hiby also outputs 16 bit 48K Hz. Audio quality is fair. It is better than non-dac phones. But DAC equipped phones (e. g. V10, V20) outperform Z2
In conclusion, if you want it as
1. cheap DAP, very worth to buy
2. PC USB DAC, don't go for it
3. mobile phone OTG USB DAC, buy it only if your phone doesn't have an internal DAC |
