I agree to it fully. Circuit design is very important. Indeed it takes most of the cost of the product.
I don't mean that DAC chip is unimportant. It creates the signal source. Without a good signal source, you can do nothing afterwards. Good circuit design tries to process and maintain the signal as efficient as possible. But creation of signal still needs good starting point (tape -> Vinyl -> CD -> HD digital file).
I have used some DAC chips (CS, TI, ESS, AKM). New gen DACs improves a lot. The ratings of new DACs (9038, 4493, 4497) are much ahead to old DACs. Human ears can tell too.
I don't suggest to go back to old DAC chip if you play HD digital files (DSD, MQS, MQA). |
