I think that response is a bit overreacted. If it is going to be a family together, what is the problem? Anyways, if I were you, I will just tell him the truth, I don't think 3D tech right now is mature enough for a very good viewing experience, suggest him to get a good normal TV than waste money on 3D. Tell him that you wouldn't buy one for yourself, you wouldn't suggest him getting one. Unless he knows you hide one in your house, that is another issue, lol.
