I am still using ipad 1 5.1.1 JB, installed old version of XBMC (not the latest KODI). Main use to watch 720p mkv. Use Mercury browser to read online comic. Safari to browse mobileO1, and light use of online banking. No problem at all.

I also have a 2012 Nexus 7 3G, use mx player to watch video up-to 1080p wmv, and mobile hotspot when travel, batter last for a good full day (40% left at night).  

Shiny good new gadget is of course fantanstic but there are still uses of these dated electronics.
