買nas 定自已用部電腦整個 ftp ser好?

首先多謝各位師兄入黎先
其實我無咩研究

我一直d 備分都係用 人手入落hdd度
我有幾隻 320gb既外置hdd....(d資料隻隻一樣的..次次入左果隻要入埋另外一隻)

不過而家開始就黎唔夠用
我而家有個想法
我而家有部pd 820 既雙核電腦 ~ 24小時長開沒有問題~ (我唔會用佢黎上網..)
不過hdd得 73gb 我打算換個 1tb或3tb 比佢
跟住用個 ftp ser 比佢...

得閒d備份就經 ftp 上傳曬比佢
咁樣黎備份d新資料....



定話事  買一部nas翻黎 做備分好呢?
其實我都唔係好明nas 同 我咁做(用我部pd820造ftp ser)有咩分別..
不過聽某d師兄講 其實 nas 都係一部主機..不過比較細部..
不重視 cpu同ram.... 只係為左 備分資料 而存在
其實我都唔知岩唔岩的.....

Back in the days there were no such thing as NAS, and people used their spare PC as servers. With the popularity of Internet and multiple PCs at homes, NAS becomes logical. I think the main advantage is the small size, low maintenance and passive cooling on some of the models. But the choice is yours. I understood what you mention.
However, I wonder should I waste that pd820 or not?
Cuz, I deem both of those Nas-es' are quite expensive and luxurious.
So, In fact , perhaps I already had a choice in my heart already.

我睇法係，現今家用nas最大用途就係media分享
網路速度發展得快，用3g已連到部機睇要嘅data, 配合mobile devices的app，睇相、streaming music極方便
而nas其實係賣software同power saving, 一部舊pc行24hrs用電量相對較多亦唔環保

另外，備份亦只是其中一個功能，重要data起碼要有3個copies

因為BACKUP上NAS唔係大曬

就算RAID5你死2隻HDD一都GAME OVER, 唔好話有無咁好彩, HDD依D野, 死開有條路, 你係EPC到SEARCH下, 咁死法既CHING有幾多個

我係NAS加WEEKEND OFFLINE BACKUP落EXT HDD到

If your relatively stable old PC is not that 'high power', I think it's ok to use it as a ftp server.   Of course you need to ensure the operating system temperature of various components (cpu, mb, video card, etc) are within normal range.  I've been using a low-end dual core mini case PC as a ftp server for years without any problem.  

NAS is good (for many other purposes) but as you mentioned, it's expensive (the NAS+HDD).  If your main purpose is just for a very simple ftp server, utilizing existing resource to fulfil the requirement is not a bad idea.
