So similar config with me
(Zotac H55 + 2 x 4G RAM + PCQ08 + 1 SSD + 5 x 2T)
But I use solaris 11 ZFS ...

不過ZFS consume cpu,但就可以用onboard sata,唔駛raid 卡.

Depend on you enable compression / dedup on ZFS.
If just raidz, it will not consume so much resource.

for dedup feature will consume many memory (around 3-4g per T)
Not huge enough memory really no need think it

As you can create many filesystem
Each have different setting.
e.g. for Video ( no compression)
        for DOC (compression + dedup)

I use I5-660 + 8G ram + 1 SSD for zfs cache and log + 5 x 2T
If just run raidz + compression for some filesystem ( the performace very good)

其實whs2011都唔係話好好用， D野好似好方便，但唔太ＦＬＥＸＩＢＬＥ

例如VIDEO STREAMING, iPAD/ANDROID 唔SUPPORT SILVERLIGHT, 最後都係裝返AIR VIDEO/QLOUD MEDIA

佢無AD唔SUPPORT NFS user mapping, 攪到D　ＰＥＲＭＩＳＳＩＯＮ　好亂　要用ＳＭＢ

ＷＥＢ／ＦＴＰ　ＳＥＲＶＥＲ　都係用返ＡＰＡＣＨＥ／ＦＩＬＥＺＩＬＬＡ
不過有家ＳＥＴ好左就唔想再攪

I have setup such config before
Depend on What resource you have now?

You MB and CPU you use? support Vt-d?
Have another NAS for NFS/ISCSI Datastore?


My old Solaris setup like that

Zotac H55 + I5 660 + 2 x 4G RAM

1. Install ESX on usb Driver
2. Install Solaris to NFS DATASTORE (from my old nas)
3. Vt-d passthrough Intel SATA controller with 5x2T + 1SSD to Solaris VM

If you CPU and MB haven't vt-d

e.g. you have 5 x 2T + 1 SSD

create equal size Vdisk on each local harddisk
create XXG vdisk for NIL on SSD(usually same size as ram is enough)
Create XXG vdisk for cache on SSD
