The impending sale of Toshiba's flash memory business, used in making SSDs as well as in consumer applications, creates an open question of what the company will do with its HDD business. It would seem likely that if the company sells its flash memory business, it will also want to sell it's HDD business.
Selling the HDD unit along with the flash unit could be one outcome, in that case Western Digital would be the obvious favored suitor, since Toshiba and Western Digital co-own NAND flash fabrication facilities and Western Digital has an established HDD business.
Toshiba is likely to want to sell its HDD unit as well, potentially reducing the HDD companies to two or creating a new HDD company from the remains of the Toshiba business

I expect my Toshiba MG04 would survive ... may be it becomes a real WD branded product in the near future |
