To be honest, I envy many "CHings" have space, money, devices, and most important, TIME to do offline backup.

The money use for data recovery is way much more than buying a new blank harddisk to make a mirror backup
RAID-1 is not a complete backup solution.
But it at least it can overcome harddisk failure compared with the situation not using RAID.

Talking about harddisk failure, due to same wearing on all the disks in any type of RAID array setup, the probability of another disk(s) failure during RAID rebuild is very high, I've seen so may case like that on HKEPC forum and loss all the data in the process, so RAID cannot overcome harddisk failure from my point of view.
RAID 1/5/6 MUST use alongside with a mirror backup or any other form of data backup, in order to be effective to protect the data, just in case of another disk failure or any URE(Unrecoverable Read Error) during RAID rebuild. |
