Paint.NET是為Windows設計，並不支援其他作業系統。
該軟體開源的特性促使替代版本的出現，
如Miguel de Icaza以Paint.NET為基礎撰寫使用公共語言運行庫Mono的Paint-Mono，
使Linux及其他Mono支援的系統得以執行Paint.NET。Icaza於2007年5月宣布正式開始Paint-Mono專案。

Key features
Editing: this software contains all tools to create an image or to correct imperfections on it. It has also other advanced functionality such as red-eye filter, blur and sharpness. It also has a layer option to retouch easily photos.

Cancellation: Paint.Mono has an undo function that allows the user to cancel his action as many times as he wish. Therefore, he can reedit the photo until he is fully satisfied.

Supported formats: Paint.Mono is able to support most popular image formats. For instance, there are BMP and GIF as well as JPEG and many others. Of course, it supports its own PDN format.

Effect: Pain.Mono contains a lot of types of effects in its data-base. This includes edge detection, and transparency management that gives the user the ability to adjust the opacity of each layer.
Pros
This software can be used and downloaded for free. It is lightweight and does not consume many system resources.
Cons
The operating system of Paint.Mono is limited to Linux only.
